Hong Kong is known for many things, it’s multitude of high rises, it’s Quicksilver speed efficiency, it’s curry fishballs from dodgy Mong Kok street stores…but it really isn’t very well known for it’s recording studios. So when a non-local band decides to record their latest album here instead of at some flashy posh L.A music studio, it’s a pretty big deal. And when said “non-local band” is Britpop legend Blur, it’s a monstrous deal.
It happened 2 years ago when Blur came to Hong Kong for a gig. Following a canceled show in Japan, the lads spontaneously decided to travel the city as well as record a couple of tracks at Avon Studios in Kowloon to kill time. Products of their time in Hong Kong eventually morphed into tracks on their 8th studio album, The Magic Whip. The Hong Kong influence is really rather quite evident just from the album cover.
And even more evident from the music video for their single, Go Out.
The point is, Blur will be performing in Hong Kong on the 22nd of July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and we think you’d all have a dandy time losing yourself to music from your favourite band, in the land where it was created.
Tickets go on sale April 20th, and will be available from HK Ticketing, K11 Select and Tom Lee Music Stories at $1080, $880, $680 and $480 (all seated).
