Tired of the plastic faces of K-pop and goofy Cantopop dancing? MadbuzzHK is here to introduce an alternative rock band, Chroma Vista, from Leeds, U.K., bringing an upbeat and accessible sound tinged with strains of reggae, funk and jazz to Hong Kong this month. Raw and intimate! 😉
Many people are in the dark when it comes to the local indie music scene in Hong Kong. It, without a doubt, has comparatively less support than mainstream Canto/Korean pop that dominates the local music industry, but with the growing success of the Clockenflap music festival in West Kowloon and many more Indie performances from Blur, Suede and The Stone Roses, it seems that the indie music scene is slowly but surely stirring interest in Hong Kong.
Needless to say, it’s still a huge struggle for bands like Chroma Vista to venture into Hong Kong, a place known to be very commercial or debatably mundane. They hope that with their passion and creativity, they can overcome commercialism and bring us a new and refreshing sound.
Keyboardist Ruff Child shared the band’s passion for music with MadbuzzHK:
We all keep the dream together by continuing to love the music and doing our own thing, be it playing music, or listening to it. Music is there to empower, and it is there to create. And so we are just another group of young souls in this cycle of creativity, trying to keep music alive, just like all of those before and after us!
Chroma Vista will have their first gig in Hong Kong on 26/8 Tuesday, 9:00pm @ Backstage Live Restaurant, 1/F, Somptueux Central, 52-
