Spotify, the handy music streaming app, has just rolled out a brand new update.
It’s mostly just a fancier layout.
But hold up…
What do we have here?
Turns out, clicking this button will transport you into the world of lyric mode, a magical place where song lyrics will pop up on screen, at a pace that’s totally in sync with whatever you’re listening to.
Which means, if you let Spotify go auto-pilot on a customized playlist and leave it in lyric mode, you would have your own home karaoke machine.

The obvious compromise is, you won’t be singing along to a glamorous music video, and will be getting a static background of the singer / band or cover art for the album instead, which is really actually not that bad, because sometimes you get cool moody shots of your favourite celebs…
Which are probably preferable over the awkward, outdated, canned videos from the 80s that you sometimes get during actual karaoke, for the older or more indie songs, made evident by exhibit A below.
So go get the update now, and start planning your next karaoke party!
Failing that, go get the update now, and start planning your next lip sync battle!
